INSPIRING PEOPLE TO LOSE
THEMSELVES IN CHRIST
IN ORDER TO FIND THEIR
PLACE IN THE WORLD.
Janelle Knox Founder, MICI Magazine & Sovron
There comes a moment when you realise that the life you’ve been living, the things you’ve believed, the expectations you’ve carried and even the convictions you’ve defended may not be everything God intended for you.
A moment when you begin to question what you’ve been taught, what you’ve accepted and what you’ve allowed to define you.
Not because you’ve lost your faith.
But because you’ve discovered that faith was always meant to take you further.
Beyond tradition.
Beyond fear.
Beyond the limitations of your own understanding.
Beyond the comfortable boundaries of what you’ve always known.
Into something greater.
Something that changes not only how you see the world, but how you choose to live in it.
That’s where our story begins.
And that’s why we’re called XCONS.
The name is deliberately confronting.
We understand what people might think when they first hear it.
That’s part of what makes it powerful.
Because not every prison has walls.
Some are built from fear. Some from pride. Some from disappointment. Some from the expectations of others.
Some are built from beliefs we’ve never questioned, traditions we’ve never examined and convictions we’ve held so tightly that we’ve forgotten to ask whether they reflect the heart of God.
You can be free to walk wherever you please and still be held captive by the way you think.
You can have everything the world calls success and still be imprisoned by the need for more.
You can spend a lifetime around religion and never experience the freedom Christ came to give.
We believe there is another way.
A better way.
His way.
The Apostle Paul wrote about being transformed by the renewing of our minds.
Not simply improving our behaviour.
Not polishing the appearance of who we used to be.
But becoming new.
A transformation that reaches into our thinking, our motives, our ambitions, our relationships and ultimately the way we live.
That is the heart of XCONS.
We are not claiming to have arrived.
We are declaring that we refuse to remain where we were.
WE’VE BEEN FREED FROM THE OLD SO WE CAN BUILD SOMETHING NEW.
At the centre of our identity is Jesus Christ.
Not religion as performance.
Not faith as an image to maintain.
Not Christianity reduced to a collection of slogans, appearances or expectations.
Christ.
The One who calls us to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him.
That invitation is extraordinary when you think about it.
To lose ourselves in Him is not to lose our purpose, our individuality, our creativity or our capacity to achieve great things.
It is to discover what those things were meant for in the first place.
It is to surrender the belief that our own understanding must always be right.
To recognise that His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, and His ways higher than our ways.
To exchange self-importance for significance.
To exchange empty ambition for meaningful purpose.
To exchange the limitations of our own thinking for the possibilities that come with trusting Him.
And to understand that following Christ isn’t simply about what we leave behind.
It’s about who we become and what we do with the life we’ve been given.
That is freedom.
Not freedom from responsibility.
Freedom to embrace it.
Not freedom to live only for ourselves.
Freedom to live for something far greater.
Three words.
An entire philosophy.
We believe freedom in Christ was never intended to make us passive.
It was never an invitation to sit on the sidelines, withdraw from the world or spend our lives waiting for somebody else to make a difference.
Freedom comes with opportunity.
And opportunity comes with responsibility.
The responsibility to love.
To serve.
To create.
To build.
To lead.
To give.
To stand up when others are overlooked.
To act when others are struggling.
To imagine possibilities where others see only problems.
And to use whatever gifts, talents, resources and opportunities we have been entrusted with to make life better for someone else.
We don’t believe the measure of a life is simply what a person accumulates.
We believe it also includes what that person makes possible for others.
The doors they open.
The burdens they lift.
The opportunities they create.
The dignity they restore.
The hope they help bring back.
We are not interested in freedom that ends with ourselves.
We are interested in freedom that changes what becomes possible for others.
That’s what it means to be freed to do more.
We are here to put love into action, to serve humanity and to reflect the One who showed us what love truly means.
And we believe love is one of the most powerful forces entrusted to humanity.
Not the sentimental version that exists only in words.
Not the convenient version that disappears when sacrifice is required.
Not the selective version that extends kindness only to people who think, believe or behave as we do.
We’re talking about love that moves.
Love that gives.
Love that builds.
Love that serves.
Love that challenges injustice.
Love that sees human dignity where the world sees inconvenience.
Love that refuses to look away when someone needs help.
Love that costs something.
Because genuine love is not measured only by what we feel.
It is revealed by what we are prepared to do.
And we believe that kind of love should influence every part of life.
How we treat people.
How we conduct business.
How we create wealth.
How we exercise influence.
How we respond to need.
How we define success.
How we use what we’ve been given.
Love doesn’t ask us to think smaller.
It demands us to do more.
We believe in dreaming big.
Very big.
We believe in building successful businesses, creating extraordinary opportunities, pursuing ambitious ideas and generating substantial wealth.
We make no apology for ambition.
But we believe ambition needs a purpose greater than itself.
Money is a resource.
Influence is a responsibility.
Success is an opportunity.
And enterprise can be an extraordinary instrument for good.
We don’t see a contradiction between building something commercially successful and being deeply committed to serving humanity.
In fact, we believe the two can strengthen one another.
Imagine what becomes possible when the desire to make a difference is matched by the resources to actually make it happen.
Imagine homes made accessible to families who have been priced out of security.
Imagine accommodation made available to people who urgently need somewhere safe to stay.
Imagine businesses creating meaningful employment, opportunity and dignity.
Imagine creativity, entertainment, fashion, music and storytelling reaching people who might never otherwise encounter a message of hope.
Imagine ideas that begin with one person and grow into something that positively affects thousands, perhaps millions.
Imagine what your life would look like if your faith actually worked.
Faith should shape how we live.
And what we believe should be visible in what we do.
It’s easy to speak about compassion.
It’s harder to create the circumstances in which compassion becomes practical help.
It’s easy to speak about opportunity.
It’s harder to build something that creates it.
It’s easy to speak about loving your neighbour.
It’s harder to make meaningful sacrifices for someone who may never be able to repay you.
But that’s the kind of love that inspires us.
The love demonstrated by Christ.
The love that serves rather than demands to be served.
The love that sees the person before the problem.
The love that refuses to reduce another human being to their circumstances.
We want our beliefs to have consequences.
Real ones.
In homes.
In workplaces.
In communities.
In the lives of individuals and families.
In opportunities that would not otherwise exist.
We believe the world needs more than people who can explain what love means.
It needs people prepared to demonstrate what love can do.
There is something beautiful about the promise of becoming new.
But becoming new is not the end of the story.
It’s the beginning.
A renewed mind should produce a different perspective.
A different perspective should produce different decisions.
Different decisions should produce different actions.
And those actions should make a difference.
That’s the journey we’re on.
We will make mistakes.
We will have things to learn.
We will encounter challenges that test our convictions and ambitions.
We don’t pretend otherwise.
But we intend to keep growing.
To keep questioning what needs to be questioned.
To keep changing what needs to be changed.
To keep building what needs to be built.
And to keep our eyes on the One who gives everything we do its ultimate meaning.
We are not defined by the limitations of yesterday.
We are not bound to repeat the thinking of the past.
And we are not prepared to measure tomorrow solely by what has been possible until now.
We believe there is more to discover.
More to create.
More to give.
More to accomplish.
More lives to touch.
More opportunities to open.
More good to be done.
Not because we are extraordinary in ourselves.
But because we believe the life we’ve been given is an extraordinary opportunity to serve.
A name that begins with the idea of freedom.
An identity grounded in transformation.
A conviction shaped by Christ.
A vision fuelled by love.
And an ambition that refuses to separate success from significance.
We are not here to build a monument to ourselves.
We are here to build things that matter.
Things that serve.
Things that last.
Things that create opportunities for others long after the original idea has become reality.
We want to demonstrate that faith and enterprise can belong together.
That love and ambition can belong together.
That commercial strength and human compassion can belong together.
That a life surrendered to Christ is not a life diminished.
It is a life given a greater purpose.
We believe the greatest expression of freedom is not simply being released from what once held us captive.
It is discovering what we are now free to become.
And what we are now free to do.
For God.
For people.
For a world that needs more than words.
